Parallel Virtual Machine is a software system enabling heterogeneous computers to be used as a single computational resource. It runs on a variety of architectures and networking conditions, and has bindings for many programming languages (most prominently C and Fortran). The official release is open source, although there are commercial implementations as well. PVM Libraries Programming Parallel Computing Computers.
